Function of the ITA

The Institute of Transactional Analysis (ITA) is the professional body that sets standards of competence and ethical practice for qualified and training Transactional Analysts in all TA fields in the UK. The ITA is affiliated to the European Association for Transactional Analysis (EATA) and is a member organisation of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

It is the object of the ITA to educate the public about the study, theory and practice of TA in accordance with recognised standards of professional competence.

The ITA is governed by a board of directors elected by members (ITA council) and is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity.

ITA is supported by a paid Administrator who carries out general enquiries, membership administration, conference bookings, advertising and much more. Council also appoints representatives who have responsibility for dealing with ethical and professional issues and who represent the ITA in other organisations. These representatives and the elected council are members of the ITA working voluntarily to maximise the ITA's effectiveness. They aim to provide support and stimulation and encourage development for the whole membership. For a diagram view of the organisation and community, please look at our flowchart.
